Steve at StartUp Blog got me thinking with this post titled The Big Win.
In his post, Steve explains how we so often count on the next big thing to get us the big win. But it never happens. In his words,
“The big win is a hoax. If we want a big win, we’re better off playing lotto.”
Success belongs to those who consistently inch toward the goal. Who constantly get the little stuff done, and done right. Who take the time to be excellent in everything.
Where are you cutting corners? What are some little things that you’ve seen make all the difference?

Have you read Seth Godin’s The Dip? I think your big payoff is the reason that a lot of people reach that dip in their lives and quit (as Seth points out). We’ve been told so many times that you can get rich fast and make a lot of money doing this that a lot of people buy into it, but you’re right…you have to get up every day and work towards your goal. I seriously doubt that Warren Buffett or Bill Gates took days off because they hadn’t made it instantly.
Oh yeah – I love The Dip. One of my favorite Godin books.
The great thing about doing the little things every day is that the returns start to compound eventually, and that’s why we think of it as ‘get rich quick.’
