Weathering the Storm

By Brett

There’s a lot of talk these days about weathering the storm.

Ride out the waves and ripples we’re seeing in the economy, the election, the world stage, etc.

The bad thing is that “weathering the storm” is normally translated as . . . .

  • Don’t invest right now.
  • Don’t make any big changes right now.
  • Don’t cause any trouble right now.
  • Don’t take any chances right now.
  • Don’t get too ambitious right now.
It feels OK to think it, mainly because there’s some logic to it. At least on the surface.
Except that it’s not true.
There’s never been a time like right now that is waving in the ambitious, the risk-takers, the troublemakers. The world is zigging, and the successes belong to the zaggers.
Don’t get me wrong: I’m not pushing opportunists to make like vultures on the spoils of society (although there will be plenty of those). What I’m trying to say, trying to remind myself, is that right now is the perfect time to do the things that most people, more than normal, aren’t willing to do.
