I Have a Crush on LinkedIn
I am admittedly not a social media savant. Until recently, I thought the most useful feature on Facebook was the birthday notification. However, I just had a euphoric experience that will have me coming back for more time and again.
Yesterday, I needed some help. I’m looking for top-notch pallet display/PoP designers specifically for Lowe’s for a possible opportunity. This is way out of my area of expertise, and if you’ve ever dealt with the display requirements at retail outlets, it is a whippin.’ I needed proven help, and I needed it fast.
So, I went to LinkedIn, clicked on the ‘Answers’ button, and asked my question, passing it along to everyone in my network (about 100 people). They could then answer directly or send to anyone in their network.
Within 4 hours, I had about 15 recommendations. Amazing!
Researching potential service-providers is terribly time-consuming and often times like the blind leading the blind. LindkedIn has found a way to leverage your network to get recommended people from your own colleagues in a relatively lightening fast method. Ask a question, go get some lunch, and come back for your answers.
Here’s my LinkedIn profile, in case you want to connect.
